ABOUT ALEX
I have been married to my high school sweetheart for the past 50
years, we have been blessed with 5 children and 10 grandchildren.
We are long-time Cochrane residents and been privileged to live
here for more than 14 years now.
Outside of serving on the Cochrane Town Council since 2017, I am
a semi-retired University Vice-President who has led a $18 million
dollar nonprofit (Pacekids) that serves 700 children with special
needs and their families for the last 14 years with 175 employees.
I have served on a number of community groups including the
Spray Lake Board, the Cochrane Planning Commission, and
previously served on the Athabasca, Alberta Town Council.
PROVEN LEADERSHIP
I’m proud to have an excellent track record promoting Responsible and
Sustainable growth that protects Cochrane’s character while ensuring smart,
future-ready planning, strong Environmental Stewardship, I launched and
supported Cochrane’s Environmental Task Force, finding practical ways to
safeguard our natural surroundings, and demosntrating Common-Sense
Leadership, presenting a steady, reliable voice at council - focused on reason,
balance, and results over politics.
Cochrane deserves leadership rooted in experience and common sense. I’ll
continue working for balanced growth, responsible decisions, and a strong
community for all of us.
Environmental Stewardship
Cochrane’s rivers, valleys, and green spaces
are what make our community unique—and
protecting them has always been one of my
top priorities. One of the central pillars of
my re-election campaign is protecting and
preserving Cochrane’s natural areas. I have
a long record of championing our rivers,
valleys, and green spaces. I have:
•
Proposed acquiring Big Hill as a
protected area.
•
Advocated for Girl Guide Camp to be
reserved for parkland.
•
Secured approval for Cochrane’s
Environmental Task Force to safeguard
our natural areas.
Environmental stewardship is not just a
campaign promise for me, it’s a consistent
priority - we must balance growth with
protecting the natural beauty and
resources that make Cochrane such a
special place to live.
Sustainable Growth
Our current growth is unsustainable and
not properly managed. For me, sustainable
growth is for Cochrane to grow at a
managed pace supported by sustainable
infrastructure, without harming our
environment, overloading our services, or
diminishing our quality of life. Key aspects
I support are:
•
Environmental integration and
stewarding
•
Sustainable development and land use
planning to control new housing and
population growth.
•
Social and community well-being
integrated planning - keep Cochrane
livable and affordable while preserving
our community character.
•
Sustainable, diversified economic
growth - supporting local businesses,
attracting new employers, and create
diverse, stable local jobs.
Diversifying Tax Base
One of my key priorities is diversifying
Cochrane’s tax base to reduce the burden
on homeowners and keep residential taxes
fair as our town grows. I am committed to
broadening our tax base, so growth doesn’t
fall solely on homeowners. Diversifying
revenue sources helps protect residents
from rising property taxes. I support:
•
Attracting new industry
•
Diversifying the local economy
•
Entrepreneurship and enabling
succesful small businesses.
•
Sutainable and integrated land use
strategies
•
Responsible mixed-use development
•
The redevelopment of underutilized
properties that fit Cochrane’s long-term
vision and planning.
